Saraswati Puja

Goddess Saraswati – the hindu goddess of knowledge

Saraswati Maa – She is the hindu goddess of knowledge, education, learning, arts, speech, poetry, music, purification, language and culture. She is considered a member of the “Tridevi” trinity consisting of Lakshmi Maa (Goddess of Wealth), Parvati Maa (the divine mother goddess) and Saraswati Maa.

As per the ancient holy Vedas scriptures – Saraswati Maa is closely associated with the river Saraswati – but with time her legend evolved to encompass the goddess of speech, poetry, music, and culture.

Saraswati Maa is considered the consort of Lord Brahma – the Supreme Creator. She is represented as a serene woman with a fair complexion, dressed in white to represent goodness. She has four arms, each holding a symbolic object: a book, a rosary, a water pot, and the veena (a string instrument).

Beside Maa Saraswati, is her animal companion, a swan who represents purity, grace and spiritual wisdom; and serves as a metaphor for the ability to discriminate between good and evil, truth from untruth and essence from the outward show.

Vasant Panchami, the 5th day of spring, is also known as Saraswati Puja, is the day students pray to Maa Saraswati, seeking her blessing for academic success.
